Interdisciplinary Conference on Sustainable Development of Hot Deserts

On October 31 and November 1, 2009 we will host our inaugural conference in the Lerner Hall of Columbia University. The conference will be dedicated to the problem of desertification and development of sustainable settlements in hot deserts. It will present a novel interdisciplinary approach to the development of hot deserts, which is based on the 50-year space technology experience in designing life support systems for Lunar and Martian settlements, long-duration flights, and orbital space stations and recent advances in controlled environment agriculture, solar energy, and biofuels. The list of speakers will include the Secretary to UN-Water, IBM's Energy & Environment Executive, and leading scientists in space technology, solar energy, and biofuels.
