Eco-i 2019 Conference

Three hundred delegates attended the Eco-I 2019 conference on Clean and Sustainable Growth held on 19th and 20th September 2019 at Lancaster University. This event showcased how research advances are driving eco-innovation across six global challenge themes; energy, waste, food, water, resource efficiency and natural capital.

Eco-I 2019 follows on from a Government-commissioned Science Innovation Audit led by Lancaster University, which demonstrates that the North West Coastal Arc hosts a unique range of assets in research quality, people, technology and place to exploit clean growth and develop low carbon products, services and technologies.

The conference included keynote speeches across the two days from: Sir Ed Davey, Former Secretary of State for the Department for Energy and Climate Change; Mark Knowles, Head of Low Carbon at Liverpool City Region LEP; Professor Ratemo Michieka, Chair of the Africa Science Research Innovation Council; and David Harland, CEO at Eden Project International.

With support from the European Regional Development Fund, Barclays and Blackpool Airport and Hillhouse Technology Enterprise Zones, the conference included talks and panel discussions involving policy experts from Government, environmental scientists and representatives from business.

Dr Andy Pickard, Manager of the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation, said “If we are to tackle the significant challenges associated with climate change, it is critical that industry, science and policy-makers work together to create solutions.”
